Aaron T. Beck developed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the 1960s and 1970. Since then, it has become the most recognized treatment for anxiety, depression, and panic. CBT is highlighted by the American Psychological Association, Society of Clinical Psychology, for its strong treatment efficacy for these conditions.

Aaron T. Beck founded the Beck Institute, and his daughter Judith Beck has taken his place since his passing. I had the opportunity to train with the Beck Institute, specifically focusing on anxiety, phobia, depression, and panic, and integrating mindfulness into classic CBT. The basic tenet of Beck’s CBT is not the situation that is the problem, but how we think about the situation that causes us emotional distress and unwanted behaviours . Our thoughts trigger emotions, which in turn trigger behaviours and physical symptoms which then feed back into our distress, both maintaining and intensifying symptoms and condition.

Below are brochures provided by the Beck Institute that discuss the impacts of depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, and how CBT can help alleviate the symptoms.
